What is the Erbium:YAG Laser
The Erb:YAG laser is an advanced device used in aesthetic dermatology which, like the CO₂ laser, is used to remove minor skin lesions. The difference between these lasers lies in the wavelength of the light they emit. The Erb:YAG laser operates using a focused beam of light with a specific wavelength, which causes precise ablation of the epidermis.
This results in intense stimulation of natural cellular regeneration processes and the stimulation of elastin, collagen and cellular fibre production, thereby improving tissue firmness and tone. It is a controlled procedure that allows for precise exfoliation and rejuvenation of the skin.
The Erb:YAG laser treatment procedure
The chromophore of the Erb:YAG laser is water, to which the device’s light transfers its energy. As a result of this absorption, rapid vaporisation occurs in the outer layers of the skin. This process is safe, and the healing and regeneration of the exfoliated epidermis takes place relatively quickly.
Depending on the type of pulses set on the device, various ablation effects can be achieved. Taking into account the individual needs of the skin, it is recommended to undergo 3 to 4 treatments at intervals of 4–5 weeks. The treatment plan is determined individually during the consultation.

The effects of Erb:YAG laser treatment
Aesthetic dermatology using the Erb:YAG laser offers a range of beneficial effects. As the top layer of damaged epidermis is vaporised and the next layer peels off after a few days, there is a visible improvement in the skin’s condition.
- discolouration fades and disappears, resulting in a more even skin tone
- sebaceous gland openings are reduced in size and become shallower
- fine lines become less visible
- a lasting improvement in skin density and firmness remains
The effects become more pronounced over the following weeks as the collagen regeneration and remodelling process takes place.
