What is the IPL treatment?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a treatment that uses intense pulses of light to address redness, dilated capillaries and pigmentation. It improves skin tone and overall appearance without damaging the epidermis. We perform the treatment using the Alma Harmony XL system.

IPL is not a conventional laser. It emits broad-spectrum light which, thanks to appropriate filters, can be tailored to a specific skin concern. Depending on the settings, the treatment is effective for:

  • haemoglobin (constriction of blood vessels, reduction of redness),
  • melanin (lightening of pigmentation).

The light energy is selectively absorbed by specific structures in the skin, allowing for precise treatment without damaging the surrounding tissue.

IPL is recommended for patiens with:

  • dilated capillaries,
  • skin redness
  • sun-induced and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation,
  • freckles and uneven skin tone,
  • skin prone to inflammation,
  • acne vulgaris and rosacea.

The treatment is suitable for both men and women. Eligibility is determined following a medical consultation. At Medistica, we treat the area twice during a single session, which ensures a more thorough treatment of the entire skin surface and greater effectiveness.

The IPL treatment

Before the IPL treatment

The doctor assesses the skin and selects the appropriate settings and treatment filter.

During the IPL treatment

A contact gel is applied to the skin. Light pulses are directed at the selected area. No anaesthetic is required. You may feel a brief sensation of warmth. Duration: 15–30 minutes.

After the IPL treatment

Temporary redness may occur. In the case of pigmentation, the affected areas may darken slightly before lightening. It is essential to use sun protection and follow the post-treatment instructions.

The results become apparent gradually over a series of sessions:

  • reduction in the appearance of redness,
  • closure of fine capillaries,
  • lightening of discolouration,
  • evening out of skin tone,
  • improvement in the skin’s appearance and freshness.

A course of 2–5 sessions at intervals of 3–4 weeks is most commonly recommended. IPL requires the precise selection of filters and parameters to suit the skin type and the specific condition being treated. At Medistica, light therapies and laser therapy have been developed for over 30 years. Treatments are carried out by doctors with experience in advanced laser therapy.
