What is a hair transplant?
A hair transplant performed at the Medistica clinic in Kraków is a surgical procedure designed to restore hair in areas that have become completely bald or where the hair has thinned. The procedure involves the harvesting and transplantation of grafts,
i.e. tufts of hair (usually 2–3 hairs). The risk of damage to the harvested hair follicles and neighbouring follicles is minimal.
The transplanted hair retains its genetic properties – it is resistant to androgens and is not subject to androgenetic alopecia. The hair transplant methods used at the Medistica clinic allow for repeat procedures, meaning that transplantation can be repeated as hair loss progresses. Hair transplantation provides lasting, natural results, without the risk of graft rejection
or a long recovery period.
The benefits of a hair transplant
- Low invasiveness of the procedure
- Very short recovery time
- Minimal risk of post-procedure complications
- Any pain experienced after the procedure is short-lived and mild
- Scarring does not usually occur,
- and if it does, the scars are tiny
- with a diameter of 0.8–0.9 mm
- Repeatable procedure – it can be performed as hair loss progresses
- Hair transplantation does not restrict professional activity

The hair transplant procedure in Medistica
A hair transplant using the S.A.F.E.R. method (Suction-Assisted Follicular Extraction and Re-implantation) begins with the application of a local anaesthetic (lidocaine solution) to the scalp. The donor area (the occipital region) is where the grafts – tufts of hair usually consisting of 2–3 hairs – are harvested.
The grafts are harvested using a special punch,
which penetrates the skin to a depth of 1.5–2 mm. This creates a small hole with a diameter of 0.8–0.9 mm. The punch cuts through the arrector pili muscle that anchors the hair follicles in the skin, after which the grafts are extracted using compressed air. The donor area bleeds and then forms scabs – it usually
heals without scarring.
Micro-incisions (cuts) are made in the recipient area, into which the harvested grafts are inserted. After the procedure, scabs form at the transplant site, which remain for 1–2 weeks.
Full recovery takes about 2 weeks. The results of the hair transplant become visible 6–12 months after the procedure.
